Practice Committee Conference 2024: Limits To Data Sharing?

konference

Held on 19 November 2024 - 15.00-18.30

According to the Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity universities and other research institutions “should allow access to … primary … data, except when this is in conflict with contractual legal obligations or current regulations on for example ethical, confidentiality or privacy matters or intellectual property rights”.

Furthermore, the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity provides that “researchers, research institutions, and organizations ensure that access to data is as open as possible, as closed as necessary”.

In line with these principles funders and journals usually impose strong requirements for researchers regarding the sharing of research data.

However, there are also legitimate limits to data sharing, for example due to concerns regarding the protection of personal information, national security or legitimate commercial interests.

This conference aims to discuss these limits and shed light on how such concerns may be respected, without imposing more limits to data sharing than strictly necessary.
